Position Information
Position Overview
The Senior Product Owner is accountable for requirements, backlog, and delivery readiness across a portfolio of two concurrent programs: a conflict of interest disclosure platform being rebuilt from the ground up, and a continuing education management platform consolidating three separately developed products. Both programs are built on our new platform using a prototype-led, AI-assisted delivery model. The Senior Product Owner holds independent decision authority on backlog priority and release scope within the strategy set by product management, operates multiple development teams and Azure DevOps boards at the same time, converts AI-generated working prototypes into implementable requirements, and sets the product ownership standards used across both programs. The position is a senior individual contributor role. As the product ownership function grows, the role may also mentor additional product owners and analysts.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for adhering to all HealthStream security policies, procedures, and assigned training.
Portfolio Ownership and Decision Authority
Hold end-to-end requirements and backlog accountability for two concurrent programs, the conflict of interest disclosure platform and the continuing education management platform, including trade-offs in priority, capacity, and sequencing between them
Make independent decisions on backlog priority, release scope, and acceptance of completed work within the strategy and commitments set by product management, escalating architecture, external commitment, and resourcing decisions
Maintain one authoritative record of scope and decisions for each program, reconciled against designs, prototypes, and the backlog on a fixed weekly cadence
Represent both programs in portfolio-level planning, surfacing cross-program conflicts in capacity, shared services, and timing before they affect commitments
Multi-Team Azure DevOps Operations
Configure and operate multiple Azure DevOps boards, including area paths, iteration schedules, work item hierarchy, custom queries, and dashboards
Run backlog intake, refinement, and sprint readiness for several development teams at once, including shared platform and service teams outside the immediate program
Produce cross-board delivery reporting, such as throughput, sprint readiness, release burn-up, and defect trends, for product and engineering leadership
Keep defects, security remediation, and feature work separately tracked and prioritized, applying company security remediation timelines
Prototype-Led, AI-Assisted Requirements
Convert AI-generated working front-end prototypes into implementable epics, features, and user stories, identifying gaps between prototype behavior, platform standards, and back-end capability
Use generative AI tools, including Claude, as a daily working method for drafting requirements and acceptance criteria, synthesizing meeting and customer input, and analyzing backlog health
Define requirements for AI-powered product capabilities, such as in-application agents that guide users through disclosure and workflow completion
Establish guardrails for responsible AI use in product artifacts, consistent with company data, privacy, and security policy
Cross-Program Standards and Governance
Author and maintain the product ownership playbook used by both programs, including work item quality standards, definition of ready, definition of done, and decision logging practice
Audit work item quality across all teams on a recurring basis and drive remediation with engineering leads
Build shared requirement patterns so common platform capabilities, such as permissions, notifications, and reporting, are specified once and reused across programs
Customer Commitments and Regulated Requirements
Own release readiness for external commitments, including beta programs, Innovation Council sessions, customer sandbox access, and enterprise go-live dates
Translate accreditation and regulatory requirements (ACCME, ANCC, Joint Accreditation, state and specialty boards) and accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.1 AA) into enforceable acceptance criteria
Partner with customer success and implementation to route customer-reported needs into the correct program backlog and close the loop with customers on outcomes
Leadership and Future Growth of the Function
As additional product owners or analysts join either program, mentor them and review their work items and requirements; not an immediate responsibility of the role
Onboard new team members to each program's domain, backlog structure, and working practices
Lead retrospectives on delivery model effectiveness and propose process changes to product and engineering leadership
Qualifications: Requirements
Minimum 5 years experience in software product delivery, including at least 3 years in a Product Owner role on agile development teams
At least 2 years hands-on Azure DevOps Boards experience, including configuring and operating multiple boards
Demonstrated ownership of backlogs for two or more products or teams concurrently
Demonstrated hands-on use of generative AI tools (for example Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Copilot) in requirements, analysis, or delivery work
Demonstrated experience converting prototypes or designs into implementation-ready requirements with acceptance criteria
Release and dependency management experience across multiple teams, including risk tracking and release readiness
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Experience coaching or mentoring product owners, analysts, or other team members
Advanced experience with Claude, such as Projects, connected tools and integrations, or AI-assisted prototyping
Experience in healthcare technology or regulated SaaS; familiarity with conflict of interest, continuing education, or accreditation bodies (ACCME, ANCC, Joint Accreditation)
Experience with platform rebuilds or consolidation of multiple products onto a single platform
Familiarity with platform or micro-frontend architectures and API-driven services
Working knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 AA
Product ownership or delivery certification (for example CSPO, PSPO, SAFe POPM, or PMP)
Working knowledge of Figma and a query or scripting language such as SQL, Python, or JavaScript
