SAP ERP Implementation Intern — Data Migration
About the job
Job Responsibilities & Requirements
POSITION OVERVIEW
Our organization is undertaking a company-wide SAP ERP implementation, and data migration is the workstream that determines whether we go live on time. We are hiring a Data Migration Intern to work alongside our functional leads, technical team, and system integrator partners to extract, cleanse, map, and validate legacy data as it moves into SAP.
This is a hands-on role on a live enterprise program. You will not be shadowing from the sidelines — you will own defined slices of the data effort, work directly with business data owners, and see your work reflected in the production system at cutover. It is an unusually direct path into ERP consulting, data analytics, or IT program management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Data profiling and analysis — Profile legacy data across source systems to identify duplicates, incomplete records, formatting inconsistencies, and orphaned entries; document findings for the business owners who must resolve them.
- Source-to-target mapping — Support field-level mapping between legacy structures and SAP target objects (material master, customer/vendor master, chart of accounts, open items, BOMs), and maintain mapping documentation as decisions change.
- Cleansing and remediation tracking — Execute cleansing routines in Excel, SQL, or the project's data quality tooling; track remediation progress by object and by data owner, and escalate records that stall.
- Load preparation and validation — Prepare load files, participate in mock load cycles, and reconcile pre- and post-load record counts and control totals. Investigate load errors, categorize root causes, and log defects for resolution.
- Readiness reporting — Build and maintain reporting that shows data readiness by object and workstream, giving the program leadership a reliable view of where the risk sits.
- Business stakeholder coordination — Partner with business data owners across finance, procurement, supply chain, and sales to chase down decisions and confirm cleansed values are correct.
- Documentation — Keep data dictionaries, cleansing rules, and validation procedures current so the work is repeatable for later waves and post-go-live governance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Rising junior, rising senior, or recent graduate pursuing a degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Supply Chain, Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, text functions, and comfort working with files of tens of thousands of rows.
- Demonstrated analytical rigor — you notice when a number looks wrong and you dig into why rather than passing it along.
- Clear written and verbal communication; much of this role is asking busy people precise questions and documenting their answers.
- High attention to detail and the discipline to follow a repeatable process, since data errors compound quietly and surface late.
- Ability to manage several parallel tasks and flag blockers early rather than absorbing them.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior coursework or exposure to ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics), even at an academic level.
- Working knowledge of SQL, or experience with Python (pandas), Alteryx, or Power Query for data transformation.
- Familiarity with SAP master data objects or with SAP Migration Cockpit / LSMW concepts.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools for building status reporting.
- Coursework in accounting, supply chain, or operations that provides context for what the data represents.
WHAT YOU WILL GAIN
- Direct experience on a full-scale ERP implementation — the kind of exposure most professionals wait years to get.
- Practical fluency in enterprise data governance, master data management, and cutover planning.
- Mentorship from functional consultants and program leadership, plus a defined mentor for the duration of the internship.
- A capstone presentation to program stakeholders at the end of the summer.
- Consideration for a full-time offer or return internship based on performance.

This role is performed in an office environment where a computer, telephone and other office equipment are used as needed to perform the duties of the role.
