About IR Pros

IR Pros provides commissioning, engineering, construction, and technical services for complex industrial and mission-critical environments. Our commissioning professionals bring extensive field experience supporting systems from initial equipment verification and installation through startup, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, documentation, and final turnover.

IR Pros follows a comprehensive Levels 1–5 commissioning process, helping ensure critical cooling systems are properly installed, started, tested, integrated, and operating according to design requirements.

As IR Pros continues to expand within the data center market, we are looking for experienced commissioning professionals who understand the cooling infrastructure required to support today's high-density, mission-critical facilities.

Position Overview

IR Pros is seeking an experienced Data Center Commissioner specializing in mechanical and cooling systems for mission-critical data center environments. This position will be responsible for commissioning critical cooling infrastructure throughout the project lifecycle, from equipment installation and startup through Functional Performance Testing (FPT), Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and final turnover.

The ideal candidate has 3–6+ years of data center commissioning experience with a strong understanding of mechanical cooling systems and their associated controls. This is a hands-on, field-focused commissioning position requiring strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with clients, contractors, engineers, controls teams, equipment manufacturers, and other commissioning professionals.

Data Center Cooling Systems

Chilled-water systems
Air-cooled and water-cooled chillers
Cooling towers and heat-rejection systems
Primary and secondary chilled-water pumps
Condenser-water systems
CRAH and CRAC units
Computer-room cooling systems
In-row cooling systems
Air-handling and ventilation systems
Heat exchangers
Pumps, valves, actuators, VFDs, and associated mechanical equipment
Building Management Systems (BMS)
Mechanical controls and sequences of operation
Temperature, pressure, flow, and humidity monitoring
Redundant cooling systems and failure/recovery sequences
Liquid cooling and high-density data center cooling systems, where applicable

Levels 1–5 Commissioning

Level 1 – Factory & Equipment Verification Review equipment submittals, specifications, sequences of operation, factory testing documentation, and commissioning requirements.

Level 2 – Installation Verification Perform field inspections and pre-functional checks to verify cooling equipment, piping, controls, instrumentation, and supporting systems are properly installed and ready for startup.

Level 3 – Startup & Pre-Functional Testing Coordinate equipment startup with contractors and manufacturers. Verify controls, sensors, valves, VFDs, safeties, alarms, interlocks, and system operation.

Level 4 – Functional Performance Testing (FPT) Execute functional testing of cooling systems under multiple operating conditions to verify performance against design intent and sequences of operation.

Level 5 – Integrated Systems Testing (IST) Support and execute integrated testing of mission-critical cooling infrastructure, including equipment failures, loss-of-power scenarios, redundancy, automatic transfer, recovery sequences, and system response under simulated data center operating conditions.
Qualifications: Qualifications & Experience

3–6+ years of data center commissioning experience
Strong mechanical/HVAC commissioning background
Experience commissioning mission-critical data center cooling infrastructure
Experience with Levels 1–5 commissioning
Strong knowledge of chilled-water and heat-rejection systems
Experience with CRAH/CRAC systems and other data center cooling equipment
Understanding of BMS and mechanical controls

Experience executing Functional Performance Testing
Experience supporting Integrated Systems Testing
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to identify deficiencies and drive issues through resolution
Strong written documentation and reporting skills
Ability to communicate effectively with clients, engineers, contractors, vendors, and field personnel

Key Responsibilities

Commission mechanical and cooling systems supporting mission-critical data center operations
Perform commissioning activities across Levels 1–5
Review mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment submittals, specifications, and sequences of operation
Perform installation verification and pre-functional inspections
Coordinate equipment startup with contractors and manufacturers
Verify proper operation of sensors, valves, actuators, pumps, VFDs, alarms, safeties, and controls
Execute Functional Performance Testing of cooling systems
Participate in and support Integrated Systems Testing
Test redundancy, failure, recovery, and emergency operating sequences
Verify BMS operation and mechanical system controls
Identify, document, track, and help resolve commissioning deficiencies
Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, test records, and issue logs
Coordinate commissioning activities with project schedules and construction milestones
Work directly with clients, contractors, engineering teams, controls providers, equipment manufacturers, and other project stakeholders
Support final system acceptance, documentation, and turnover

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a commissioner who understands cooling systems — not simply someone who has worked around data centers. The right candidate understands how mission-critical cooling systems operate as an integrated system, can troubleshoot problems in the field, understands sequences of operation and controls, and can verify that equipment performs properly during normal operation as well as failure and recovery scenarios.

Experience with large-scale hyperscale, colocation, cloud, or other mission-critical data center environments is highly preferred.

Join IR Pros

IR Pros is expanding its commissioning capabilities within the rapidly growing data center market. This position provides the opportunity to work on complex, high-performance cooling infrastructure supporting some of today's most demanding mission-critical environments.

If you have strong mechanical commissioning experience and understand what it takes to keep a data center cool, reliable, and operational, we want to hear from you.
